  16. "virus" stalled thousands of computers nationwide in 1988; to
  17. three years' probation, 400 hours of community service and a
  18. $10,000 fine. Morris, who did not draw a jail term in the
  19. closely watched case, was the first person tried under a
  20. federal law designed to protect computer security.
